If you are married to a Panamanian, love offers you a privileged path to permanent residency in a country that deeply values family unity and mutual support.

  • You must be married to a Panamanian citizen.
  • Submit your application within 30 days after getting married to avoid penalties.
  • This temporary residence entitles you to Permanent Residence after two (2) years. (stay faithful :-) )
  • In 5 days you will receive your residence permit application - Final approval in 6 months maximum.
  • You must pass the marriage interview to obtain this residence permit.

Who can apply?

Can any foreigner married to a Panamanian citizen opt for a future full of opportunities, culture, and warmth in the country that will be your new home? Can they apply?  




[ Conditions for obtaining this Permit ]

Married couples must live together in conditions of uniqueness, stability, and continuity. This condition can be validated by the National Immigration Service through a visit to the marital residence.







Family Stability

If you have experienced changes in your family situation, such as widowhood or divorce with children, or if you have custody of your minor children, you can include them in your residence application.


Love and Permanent Residency

After two (2) years with this temporary residence, you will be eligible for a permanent visa along with your dependents.


Work Permit

This visa grants a work permit under the category of married to a national.

  1. Power of attorney (notarized) and application. The power of attorney must contain the name and nationality of the applicant's parents.
  2. Three (3) photographs.
  3. Duly certified copy of passport (notarized or authenticated as appropriate).
  4. Certificate of Criminal Record.
  5. Health Certificate.
  6. Certified check for B/.250.00 payable to the National Treasury.
  7. Affidavit of Personal Background Form.
  8. Marriage certificate issued by the Civil Registry issued by the Civil Registry.
  9. Birth certificate of the Panamanian spouse, issued by the Civil Registry.
  10. Birth certificates of Panamanian children, if any, issued by the Civil Registry.
  11. Copy of the Panamanian spouse's identity card, authenticated by the Electoral Tribunal.
  12. Notarized letter of responsibility and repatriation of the Panamanian spouse.
  13. Document proving the marital residence (lease agreement, title deed, or utility bill proving the address).

Exceptions to the Rule:

1. The National Immigration Service may exempt from the marriage interview any foreigner who has two (2) Panamanian children in common.

2. Applicants who have been widowed or divorced during the term of their provisional permit and had children during the marriage may opt for permanent residence. In the first case, they must provide a death certificate for their spouse and birth certificates for the children born during the marriage. Submission of these documents does not guarantee or oblige the national immigration service to grant the applicant permanent residence. ​

Siempre que los hijos sean menores de edad y están bajo la guarda del solicitante contrayente pueden ser incluidos. Si el otro progenitor está con vida se debe contar con la autorización de este para incluir a los menores.

Una vez que sea presentada la solicitud de Residencia se fijará una cita para la entrevista matrimonial. Si los contrayentes tienen al menos dos (2) hijos panameños en común podrán ser exonerados de la entrevista.
