Application for Permanent Residence

Many of the two-year provisional residencies entitle you to apply for Permanent Residency with the right to an E Card.

You must have temporary residence for two (2) years with the right to remain.
The application may be submitted three (3) months before your Provisional Residence Permit expires.
You can include your family members (spouse, children, and parents) in your application for permanent residence. -In 5 days, you will receive your residence permit application.
Final approval within 6 months maximum.
Final approval in a maximum of 6 months. This process grants you Permanent Residence in Panama with the right to an E ID card.

Who can apply?

Any foreigner who has a Provisional Residence Permit that establishes the right to permanent residence.

A path to Panamanian citizenship

Permanent resident status is required in order to subsequently apply for Panamanian citizenship. You must be a permanent resident before you can become a naturalized citizen.

Permanent Resident status grants you residence without expiration, so you will not have to complete any further renewal procedures. This residence does not expire.

En la solicitud de Permanencia se pueden incluir a todos los dependientes que ingresaron con el principal en el Permiso de Residencia que les otorgó la Residencia Provisional en la categoría respectiva. Todos aquellos que se incluyeron en el trámite inicial.

¿Qué gastos están incluidos en este Permiso?

Para la solicitud de Permanencia solo tendrás que pagar honorarios de abogados por el trámite y gastos de Notaría de documentos y cotejos. Para este permiso de residencia quedan excluidos los gastos con cheque al Servicio Nacional de Migración y Tesoro Nacional.
